Craig Theodore "Ted" Hughes

Craig Theodore “Ted” Hughes, of Benton, Kansas, passed away on Monday, July 26, 2021 at the age of 75 with his loving children by his side. Ted was born on November 6, 1945 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Clayton and Juanita (Council) Hughes. He was raised by Juanita and Leon Council for the majority of his life. Ted proudly served his country in the Navy during Vietnam and also retired from the Army. He was very proud of his military service. Ted married his first love, Joyce Ann, and they raised their children, Ed and Trish, until her passing in May of 1993. Ted went on to marry his second love, Jean Ann, and they were together until her passing in June of 2010. Ted loved bowling. He loved bowling so much that he has acquired at least six bowling balls of his own. He also loved hunting, fishing, and cowboy action shooting. He had a passion for history. He loved learning about American history, both with wars and politics. Ted also enjoyed antique cars, especially hot rods. He was a very loving son, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great-great grandfather that will be deeply missed by all those who knew him.

Ted was preceded in death by his parents, Clayton Hughes, Juanita Council, and Leon Council; and brother, Chris Council.

Ted is survived by his children, Trish Lain and Ed Hughes; stepchildren, Amber (Tony) Marshall and Sam Roberts; sister, Cathy Beaird; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; 1 niece; 1 nephew; and many friends, including his best friend of more than 50 years, Ronnie Edson.

A Visitation will be held from 5-7pm on Thursday, July 29, 2021 with a funeral service to follow at 10am on Friday, July 30, 2021, both at Carlson Colonial Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow the funeral service at Benton Cemetery, Benton, Kansas.
