Dennis Floyd Conger

April 20, 1940 ~ April 19, 2018 (age 77)


Dennis’s life began on April 20, 1940 in Elkhart, KS. He is the son of Floyd and Emma (Myers) Conger. Dennis is a graduate of Wichita State University with his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education. He was united in marriage to the former Karen Lugard on January 25, 1964 at the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Wichita. Dennis was a band director in several Kansas schools including, El Dorado, Circle Schools, Haysville, Hugoton, and Belle Plaine. He loved music and teaching his students and seeing them grow and excel at music. Dennis spent his summer breaks working at Dillard’s in the menswear department and was always a sharp dresser. His passion and hobby after retirement was scroll saw woodworking and he created beautiful pieces out of poplar, oak and walnut that he shared with family and friends. Dennis’s backyard was full of hummingbirds and he enjoyed watching them at the feeders and flying. He enjoyed music all of his life and playing his piano and organ. Dennis’s great joy was his family which includes his wife of 54 years, Karen of Andover; children Kandi Jones of Augusta, Brandon (Tina) Conger of Andover and Justin (Sally) Conger of Wichita; grandchildren Dakota and Colby Jones, Jace, Madison and Maizy Conger; sister Arletta Shores of Guymon, OK and several nieces and nephews. Dennis passed away at his home on April 19, 2018. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Barbara Lavake and brother Charles Conger. His family will gather with friends on Friday at 1 p.m. at the Carlson Colonial Chapel (200 S. Star, El Dorado) for his memorial service and gathering. Kirby-Morris Funeral Home is serving the family.
