Don’s life began on May 28th, 1960 in Jacksonville, Florida, the son of Donald Yates, Sr. and Mary Ann Bensen. He was a Master Plumber with over 30 years of experience, and once proudly owned/operated his own business in El Dorado, Yates Plumbing. Don was a storyteller and jokester, and loved talking and laughing with people he met through work or personally. He was an avid San Diego Chargers fan (Go Bolts!), loved his children deeply, enjoyed listening to music, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his father Donald (Fatima) Yates, Sr. of Kajang, Malaysia; children Christine (Eric) Patterson of Richmond, Virginia and Dakota Yates of Salina; ex-wife Teresa Yaezenko of El Dorado; brothers Doug (Linda) Yates of El Dorado, David (Elizabeth) Yates of Wichita and Dale (Jhonalyn) Yates of Augusta; sister Ann Marie (Clete) Heady of Parsons and several nieces and nephews.
Don passed away at home on Thursday, March 15, 2018. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ann Benson, and son, Donald “Disco” Yates, III.
A small memorial service will be held for members of the family and friends at the El Dorado Train Depot, 430 N. Main Street, on Thursday, March 22, 2018, from 4 pm to 6 pm. Additional friends and members of the community who wish to stop by are welcome at any time. No formal services will be held. Kirby-Morris Funeral Home is serving the family.
