Doris Louise King, 89, of Springdale AR, passed away October 5, 2018. She was born July 8, 1929 in Peabody, KS to the late Harry and Lucille Shockley. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, John Sam King, son John, and daughter Marsha. A longtime resident of El Dorado she enjoyed raising her family before starting her career as a nurse assistant for Dr. Girard and later as secretary and accountant for K.T. Wiedemann Trust. She was involved in many social and civic groups before retirement. She thrived in retirement, working on her golf game, decorating and redecorating her home, and enjoying activities with friends and within her community. Doris had a very tight-knit group of friends who were each other’s support through many of life’s experiences. They laughed together, cried together, travelled together and held each other in their hearts no matter the distance. In later years Doris relocated to Springdale, AR to be near her family. She was a resident of Gardens of Arkanshire retirement community where she immediately established her place as friend, card player, and involved herself in directing the rearranging the decor in the community. Doris is survived by her son Brad and his wife Sheryl of Springdale. Her sister Eleanor Abplanalp of Newton. And, the greatest joys of her life, her 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held at 1 pm, Friday October 12, 2018 at Kirby-Morris Funeral Home, El Dorado, KS.
