Emma’s life began on April 2, 1925 in Gridley. She is the daughter of Samuel and Lydia (Somerhalder) Bahr. She was united in marriage to Godfrey Miller on July 22, 1951 in Gridley. Emma earned her teaching degree from Emporia State Teacher’s College and had a nearly 30 year career teaching at Lincoln Elementary and El Dorado Middle School. She was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church, American Association of University Women, Friends of the Bradford Memorial Library, Prairie Prose, the Parkinson Support Group and Kansas Education Association. Emma was a frequent visitor to the YMCA in El Dorado where she enjoyed swimming and Pilates. Reading and writing were passions of hers. She loved the outdoors, camping, canoeing, hiking and gardening. Emma also volunteered at the Kansas Oil Museum. Next to her love of the Lord, her greatest joy was her family which includes her children Chris (Debbie) Miller of Kansas City, MO, Larry Miller of Wichita and Jane Miller of El Dorado; grandchildren Denita (Bret) Young, Satina (Nate) Goodwin, Ashley (Tanner) Williams, Blain Dodson, Devin (Gina) Miller, Matthew Cranford, sister Jakie Herr of Green Valley, AZ and great grandchildren, Kenneth, Logan and Abigail Young, Benjamin Miller, Axel Dodson, Rylan, Rogan, Rocky and Ruby Goodwin. Emma passed away on December 1, 2018 at Marjorie’s Home in Wichita. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Godfrey, sons Terry Daniel Miller and an infant son; daughter in law Deena Miller, siblings Sylvan, Lester, Ernest, Rudy, Franklin, David, Dorothy, Ann and Elsie. Her family will gather with friends on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at the Kirby Morris Funeral Home. Her funeral service will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Apostolic Christian Church (1202 S. Lulu St. Wichita). She will be laid to rest in the Apostolic Cemetery in Gridley at a later date. Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to the Godfrey and Emma Miller Scholarship through Partners in Education USD 490.
