Tribute

Jamie’s life began on April 12, 1958 in Wichita. She is the daughter of James P. and Jennie M. (Hoover) Berry. She was united in marriage to Neil Boyce on May 30, 1981 at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Wichita. Jamie was a 1976 graduate of Wichita High School East and attended Wichita State University. She then entered the Butler County Community College Nursing Program, graduating in 1983 with her Associate Degree in Nursing. She went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing in 2003 from Southwestern College, Winfield, KS. From a very young age, Jamie knew she wanted to be a nurse. Even prior to becoming an RN, she worked in the medical field as a Candy Striper, Patient Care Assistant, Medical Care Assistant, Nurse's Aid and in Respiratory Therapy. She began her RN career at Via Christi St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita in 1984 where she worked in Cardiac Special Care units through 1999. Jamie then worked as an RN in Medical/Surgical/ICU at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado, KS until 2002, when she moved into Quality/Risk Management through 2015. After brief service elsewhere, she returned to Via Christi Health where Jamie was employed up to the present as a RN Navigator. Jamie was a longtime member of El Dorado First Baptist Church, served on the Executive Committee for Victory Christian Academy through it's early years, and to many people over many years she was known as 'Mama Bear' at Girl Scout Camp Wiedemann. She served and supported a number of ministries, health organizations, and community service efforts throughout her life and, over the last few years, became an avid WSU Shocker Basketball fan. Jamie's greatest joy was her family which includes her husband Neil Boyce of El Dorado, son J.C. (Becky) Boyce of El Dorado; siblings Glenn (Michele) Milligan of Bar Harbour, ME, Mary (Gary) Moore of Wagoner, OK, and Jon (Debbie) Berry of Atlanta, GA; brother in law Roger Godsey of Fayetteville, AR and many beloved nieces and nephews. Jamie passed away on September 26, 2018 at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother James P. Berry Jr. (in infancy) and sister Sharon Henderson-Godsey. Jamie’s family will gather with friends on Friday October 5th from 5-7 p.m. at the Kirby-Morris Funeral Home. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday October 6th at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church in El Dorado. She will be laid to rest in Blankinship Cemetery near Rosalia, KS.
