Jason “Cheese” Ray Farthing, of Augusta, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2021. Jason was born on August 17, 1971 in El Dorado, Kansas to Carl and Cynthia (Solomon) Farthing. After graduating high school, he worked with his dad pouring concrete, then went to Spirit, until returning to El Dorado to raise his boys and settling into a life as a diesel mechanic. He worked his way up to a shop foreman with Hogoboom Trucking. He loved his job and put in many hours to make sure everything was done accurately and on time. Jason married his first love, Britta, in January of 1993. Together they had three sons Daniel, Trey, and Trevis, before the marriage ended in August of 1998. Jason found love again in Cathi Pope, and they were married in October of 2004. Together they raised Trey and Trevis, along with Cathi’s children, Jonathan, Joshua, and Jenna. Together they built one beautiful family full of love and happiness. He loved his family and friends and would do absolutely anything for them. Part of his time with his family was spent cooking. He loved to smoke food and cook foods that would be considered adventurous for most people. He also loved going skiing in the mountains of Colorado. Trips to Colorado always brought a smile to his face. And if someone wasn’t smiling, Jason was sure to antagonize them until a smile would start to crack across their faces. He was a very loving son, brother, husband, father, papa, uncle, and friend.
Jason is preceded in death by his father, Carl Farthing; and son, Daniel Farthing.
Jason is survived by his mother, Cynthia (Solomon) Farthing; wife, Cathi (Pope) Farthing; previous wife and mother of three of his children, Britta Peterson; children, Trey (Michelle) Farthing, Trevis (Cydney) Farthing, Jonathan (Jaryn) Pope, Joshua (Catherine) Irwin, and Jenna (Emmitt) Lechner; grandchildren, Brysen, Elijah, and Kaizer; siblings, Joshua Farthing and Karla Farthing; and nieces, Joee and Kayla.
A visitation will take place on Monday, September 13, 2021 from 5-7pm with a funeral service to follow on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at 10am, both at Carlson Colonial Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Leon Cemetery.
