Jerry Penwell

Jerry’s life began on November 21st, 1938 in El Reno Ok. He is the son of Homer L. and Jessie M Penwell. Jerry was united in marriage to Allene (Larcom) Penwell on August 18th 1979 in Wichita. As a youngster, he learned the farrier trade from a Calvary blacksmith at Ft Reno Oklahoma. In high school, he participated in bareback bronc riding and calf roping. He participated in team roping and team penning throughout his life. Jerry was also head rodeo coach at BCCC for a couple years. Jerry has friends and students of all ages in the rodeo arena throughout a lifetime of competing and teaching. Jerry ran his own cow herd and helped other ranchers and cowboys day work throughout the surrounding area. Jerry was well known for his fence building and pipe pen construction throughout Butler and surrounding counties. He was a member of the AQHA, Butler County Saddle Club, the Old Timers Rodeo Association and United States Team Roping Association. His loving family includes his wife Allene Penwell of Beaumont; children Jerry L. (Carla) Penwell of Cassoday, Sheryl Callies of Leon, Jim (Vicki) Penwell of Leon, Tracey (Andi) Penwell of Harper, Bill (Beth) Schafer of Rosalia, Ray Schafer of Ordway, CO, and Jacki (Mike) Montgomery of Fort Worth, Tx; grandchildren Lindsay ( Lucas) Littrell, Kyle (Lacy) Penwell, Anne (Cory) Conway, Nathanael Owens, Zachary (Vicki) Owens, Jay Owens, Kelli Barrett, Tyson (Mariah) Callies, Shelbi Penwell, Michael Guilliams, Cole Penwell, Jeremy Penwell, Chelsea (Chance) Boese, Devon (Jessika) Sona, Conner(Jill) Sona, and Katie Duncan; 38 great grandchildren and brother Harvey (Butch) Penwell of Jackson, TN. Jerry passed away on March 6, 2019 in Wichita. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Homer Penwell and sister Mary Helen Penwell. His family will gather with friends on Friday March 8, 2019 from 5-7 p.m. at the Carlson Colonial Funeral Home. His funeral service will be held on Saturday March 9, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at the Beaumont Church led by Pastor Michael Gracy. Jerry will be laid to rest in Leon Cemetery.
