Marjorie’s life began on December 27, 1934, the daughter of Jared and Stella May (Porter) Taylor in Andover, Kansas. She was an overachiever and graduated from Benton High School Class of 1951 at the age of 16 years old and went to work at Wesley Medical Center. Marjorie married Harold J. Shaffer on March 23, 1952, in Andover, Kansas. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She enjoyed sewing for her family, knitting, crocheting, cooking, and gardening. She also worked alongside her husband on the farm. Her volunteer work for 30 years with the Susan B. Allen Auxiliary was a highlight in her life. She was a member of Nokomis, the El Dorado Alzheimer’s Support Group that met at Spangles weekly and the Tuesday Ladies Coffee Club. In her later years she enjoyed reading and daily crossword puzzles.
Her loving family includes her daughters, Sharyl (Tim) Vestal of Dallas, Texas, Terri Cool of Tulsa, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Erica (Asa) Hill of El Dorado, Jared (Sheena) Fowler of Orlando, Florida; great-grandchildren, Jaxson, Abbigail and Keegan Hill, Miles and Ellison Fowler.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 2004, and a brother, James Taylor. Marjorie passed away, Saturday, March 16, 2019, having reached the age of 84 years old.
Her family will gather on Wednesday, March 20, from 5-6:30 p.m. at Carlson Funeral Home where her funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 21, at 1:30 p.m. led by Pastor Stan Seymour. Marjorie will be laid to rest next to her husband, Harold in the Benton Cemetery in Benton, Kansas.
