Maxine Lorayne Towne

December 16, 1921 ~ November 17, 2017 (age 95) 95 Years Old

Maxine was born December 16, 1921, the daughter of Earl and Hattie (Martin) Bishop in DeGraff, Kansas. She grew up in the DeGraff and Rosalia area and graduated from Rosalia High School in 1939 and attended Emporia State University. Maxine worked for Beech Aircraft during World War II and then married Paul Towne on January 7, 1943, in El Dorado. For a few years she taught school in rural El Dorado. Maxine was a member of the Towanda United Methodist Church of Christ, Federated Women’s Club, volunteered at the El Dorado Oil Museum, enjoyed church work, reading and gardening.

Maxine’s loving family includes her children and their spouses, Larry and Jennifer Towne of Wichita, Gene and Doreen Towne of Manhattan, Kansas, David and Cassia Towne of Rockledge, Florida and Carol and David Lytle of Basehor, Kansas; a sister and her husband, Lillie and Max DaMetz of Topeka, Kansas; 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul in 1990; and a brother, Harold Bishop. Maxine passed away peacefully Friday, November 17, 2017, having reached the age of 95 years old.

Her family will gather with friends on Wednesday, November 29, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. with funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. both in the Carlson Funeral Home Chapel. She will be laid to rest in Blankinship Cemetery in Rosalia.
