On August 11, 2017, the world lost a truly kind and generous soul. Born on December 11, 1927, the depression had a powerful effect on Opal, teaching her to never waste anything and to live frugally. She married Don Baker, her husband for life, who she met in Arkansas City, where he worked for Gas Service Co., all his life. She loved plants and raised many exotic flowers, trees and cacti. She was great with young children, a very talented artist, and wrote two books on her family genealogy. As a young lady she also did some fashion modelling. Opal was quite active in the Wichita Art Association and became well known as a painter and art teacher. One of her students became a famous professional and his works graced many magazine covers. She travelled extensively throughout the United States and Europe. Opal is survived by her son Randy (Dana) Baker, sister June and nephews Chris, Harold, Steve (Deb), nieces Edie, Susan and Diane, grandchildren Anna (Scott) Justin (Marie), great grandchildren Andrew, Tyra, Baylor, Bentley, Magnum and Maci. She was preceded in death by her husband Don and two sons Tracy and Michael. Private family services are being conducted and she will be laid to rest in Sunset Lawns Cemetery. Kirby Morris Funeral Home is serving this fine lady. Please sign her online guestbook and leave a memory of Opal at www.carlsonkirbymorris.com.
