Patricia "Patti" Coelyn Cost

Patricia (Patti) Coelyn Cost, age 70, passed away peacefully January 21, 2021 at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Via Christi St. Frances hospital, Wichita, Kansas with her husband by her side. She was born in El Dorado, Kansas on August 20, 1950 to Hubert and Mildred Orndorff. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Steve and son Coby Cost(Lauren Cost) and daughter Caleigh Martin (Daryn Martin), grandchildren; Eilley, Azlyn, Millie, Keeva, Cora, Zadie and Emmitt. Her parents Hubert and Mildred Orndorff, brothers Vernon Orndorff, Richard Orndorff and sister Nita McLean, preceded her in death

Patti was a graduate of El Dorado High School, class of 1968 and Emporia State University, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1972. Patti taught Special Education, elementary grades 3 thru 5 and retired as Title I Reading teacher for a career of 48 years in education.

Patti was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, teacher and friend. She loved being called “YaYa”. She had a vivacious personality and always made people around her feel comfortable and made them laugh. Patti was a good listener and was always interested in what you had to say. At social activities she was always first to arrive and the last to leave. She was eager to help someone out when they had problems or life challenges.

She loved traveling to upstate New York in the summer to visit family, visiting a casino on occasion, meeting friends for “supper club”, or Tuesday “girls” night out at local fast food restaurants, day trips with the “girls”, golf, going to the movies, swimming and watching her grandchildren grow up.

Visitation will be Wednesday, January 27th at Carlson & Kirby-Morris Funeral Home, 200 S. Star, El Dorado, Ks. 5- 8 pm with a vigil celebrating her life and Rosary at 8:10pm

Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, January 28th at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, El Dorado, Ks., at 10:00 AM, with graveside service to follow at Walnut Valley cemetery, El Dorado, Kansas.
