Robert Duane Hughes was born on October 12, 1943 in Wichita, Kansas; the son of Wilbur Martin and Helen Marie (Drum) Hughes. He graduated from El Dorado High School. Bob faithfully served his country in the United States Army from 1969 to 1972 when he was medically discharged. During his tours, he served as military police and was assigned to the tank cars in Vietnam but was later transferred to infantry, within that time he received his Purple Heart. After being discharged from the military, Bob drove for American Freight, FedEx, Texaco and Greyhound. He loved riding motorcycles and spent his entire life taking care of others. If he ever heard of a need, he did his best to make sure it was met, with his generous heart and giving spirit. His loving family includes the love of his life, Sue Fee; daughter, Shawn (David) Blau; granddaughters, Mackenzie (Billy) Jackson and McKaylee Batman; great grandsons, Will and Waylon; brother, Bill (Kathy) Hughes; and sisters in law, Kathy Hughes and Shirley Hughes. Bob passed away on May 11, 2022 in Wichita, Kansas. He is preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Kenneth Dean Hughes, Michael James Hughes and Patrick Joseph Hughes. Friends may gather with family at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church on Monday, May 16, 2022 from 5:00-7:00 pm; the recitation of the rosary will follow at 7:00pm. Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at 10:00am. Burial and military honors will immediately follow at Sunset Lawns Cemetery.
