Hap’s life began on August 2, 1934 in El Dorado. He is the son of Walter Schmidt and Marie (Hoober) Thompson. Hap was united in marriage to Beverly “Toots” McGoyne on September 4, 1957 in El Dorado. He was employed by Blackburn Construction as a pipefitter for many years. Hap made many great memories with his family fishing and watching his grandson Tyler’s sporting events. He enjoyed watching golf, hunting rabbits, gambling and playing bingo. His greatest joy was his family which includes his daughter Penny Schmidt of Cassoday, grandson Tyler Schmidt of Cassoday, nieces and nephews Linda (Richard) Reed, Becky (George) McHaley, Diana ( Gary) Andrews, all of El Dorado, Doug (Carolyn) Erpelding of Owasso, OK, and Jeff (Kim) Erpelding of Plainview, TX and many great nieces and great nephews. Hap passed away on Tuesday August 21, 2018 in Emporia. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Beverly “Toots” Schmidt, brother Ronald Schmidt, sister Ruby Schmidt, and niece Tina Marie Morgan. His family will gather with friends on Sunday from 1-2p.m. at Kirby-Morris Funeral Home where his memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. He will be laid to rest in Cassoday Cemetery.
