Sharla LeAnn Hayes passed away surrounded by loved ones after a decades-long battle with illness on April 28, 2023, at the age of 54.
She was born on July 24th, 1968, in her hometown of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. After she graduated from Putnam City West High School in 1986, she joined the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority at the University of Oklahoma and majored in elementary education. Sharla then earned her master’s degree in elementary education from Southern Nazarene University. She spent the later years of her life as a teacher, which became one of her most beloved passions. Anyone who met Sharla as Mrs. Hayes knows she was born with the gift of being an incredible educator. She cared for all her students as her own and aimed to positively impact each life lucky enough to be influenced by her.
In addition to her students, Sharla had two of her own children, Kendall and MaKenna. She never hesitated to put her children first and will be dearly missed by both. Sharla enjoyed living her life to the absolute fullest. Her favorite memories were her trips to New England with her husband of 31 years, Chance Hayes. When she was not traveling, she found happiness in sitting with her mother, Joy, on her porch. They would sip their coffee for hours, petting Sharla’s dogs and listening to the cardinals chirp.
Sharla is survived by many loved ones who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives with kindness, patience, and resilience.
Her celebration of life will be held at First United Methodist Church, 421 W. Central Avenue, El Dorado, Kansas, at 1:00 p.m. on May 13th, 2023.
In lieu of flowers, her family is asking donations to be directed towards the American Liver Foundation in Sharla’s honor at: www.tinyurl.com/SharlaHayes
