Thelma Jean (Hudson) Lore, 90, passed away Friday, May 5, 2023, at her home in El Dorado. She was born on October 26, 1932 in Gove, Kansas, to Chester and Ethel (Trowbridge) Hudson. She grew up in Eureka and graduated from Eureka High School in 1951. She was united in marriage to Don Lore in Bentonville, Arkansas, in 1951. They were fortunate enough to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary before Don’s death.
Don and Thelma’s family includes their three sons: Randy Lore, Ben Lore of Wichita, Tom Lore and his spouse Dennis Enslinger of Washington, DC, and daughter-in-law Cathy Lore of El Dorado. They had four grandchildren Megan (Lore) Bruce and husband Cameron of Wichita, Jonathan Lore and wife Heather of Littleton, Colorado; Levi Ballard and wife Jessica of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Dallas Lore. They also have six great-grandchildren: Baric, Davis, Ophelia, Benjamin, Oliver, and Adderley.
She was preceded in death, husband Don in 2021, son Randy in 2000 and grandson Dallas in 2015.
Thelma was the seventh of twelve siblings. She was preceded in death by Oscar, Doris, Ethel Mae, Viola June, Lloyd, Elsie, William, and Charles. She is survived by her brother Donald “Donny” Hudson of Hutchinson; sisters, Lois Merchant of Buffalo, South Carolina; and Carol Hudson of Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Thelma was a homemaker, employed for private duty nursing and retired from the El Dorado Medical Clinic as a doctor’s assistant after 21 years. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, and reading. Her Angel Food cakes were legendary. She loved to travel and had visited all 50 states (many with her sisters) and five countries. Other hobbies included decorating ceramics, making wedding cakes and expanding her many collections
She was a longtime member of Park Avenue Baptist Church. She was a member and held offices for several years with the Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and Sewing Saints. After retirement she became an active volunteer with the Pink Ladies at the hospital where she received her 7,000-hour volunteer pin and was recognized as the 2013 Volunteer of the Year.
Friends may gather with the family from 10-11am on Monday, May 15 at Carlson Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 11am led by Pastor Stan Seymour. Graveside services will be conducted on Monday, May 15 at Greenwood Cemetery, Eureka at 1pm. Memorial contributions in Thelma’s name may be directed to the Susan B.
