Theta Greenwell

April 22, 1934 ~ August 6, 2020 (age 86) 86 Years Old

Tribute

Theta (Kimble) Greenwell was born on Sunday, April 22nd, 1934, in Manhattan, KS. She was the only child of Lloyd W. Kimble and Florene (Bieler) Kimble and went to her heavenly home on Thursday, August 6, 2020, at Harry Hines Hospice – St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, Kansas.
Theta attended El Dorado High School, graduating with the Class of 1952.
On November 1st, 1952, she married her high school sweetheart, Lloyd E. Greenwell in Bentonville, Arkansas.
Theta’s mother did not give her a middle name as she did not want her to have a nickname. Little did her mother know that Theta’s sweetheart, Lloyd, would nickname her “Thet!”
Theta was a very loving, trustworthy, intelligent, meticulous, faithful, and hardworking woman. For many years, she worked as a secretary at Boeing, in the Government Secret Department, taking care of the records for Astronaut Allan Shepard; she also held positions at Century Plastics, Inc. and International Petroleum Services in El Dorado. While working at IPS, Theta worked with the Astronaut, Neil Armstrong. But, her most cherished position was being the loving wife for nearly 68 years to her husband, Lloyd, whom she adored!
Theta was known for her way of decorating a room with a western style, growing beautiful flowers, and her love of nature and wildlife. For many years her and her husband owned and operated The Greenwell Brangus Ranch and were the first to introduce the Brangus Cattle Breed into Butler County. Theta was a true rancher’s wife, could drive a tractor, a swather, helped brand cattle, anything that was required Theta did her best to do. In 1980 Theta was President of the Butler County Cattle Women’s Association. For many years she and her husband showed cattle at the Kansas State Fair and the American Royal in Kansas City. They also raised Quarter Horses and owned the King Ranch Stallion, “Hired Hand.” Theta and Lloyd were active in their community and sponsored many local sports teams.
She was a member of Temple Baptist Church. Theta’s favorite Bible Scriptures are John 3:16 and Psalm 37:3,4,5.
Theta is survived by her loving husband of the home, Lloyd, several nephews and nieces, her cat, Cyan, and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Kirby Funeral Home is in charge of her arrangements. Friends may call on Sunday, August 9, 2020, between the hours of 2 and 4 p.m. Due to COVID, a private family funeral will be held with burial in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.
